Business Ethics, Fraud and Critical Thinking Skills
Patrick Kuhse, Ethics Fellow

The objective of this interactive program is to give the accounting practitioner a better understanding of why good people do bad things. International speaker Patrick Kuhse will share his journey from prominence as a successful stockbroker in San Diego to his involvement in a financial fraud scheme, flight from the US to avoid prosecution, life as an international fugitive and his subsequent self-surrender and incarceration for several years. The program emphasizes “real world” ethical dilemmas and examples from Martha Stewart to Enron. Qualifies as 3 accounting and auditing credits.

This presentation will focus on internal control involvement by the CPA Compiler or Reviewer and how that involvement has an impact on CPA independence. The following issues will be covered: internal control concerns on audits, compilations, and reviews; internal control history; COSO definitions and interrelated components; CPA internal control services that impair independence; and the impact of independence impairments on compilations and reviews.Qualifies as 3 accounting and auditing credits.

The Estate Tax Is (or Was) Dead

The state of estate tax repeal will be addressed with a review of recent developments in estate tax planning.
